Middle School Camp

August 23rd, 2006 · 1 Comment

Wow. How do I describe middle school camp. This will be the first of several posts about middle school camp. As Kurt and Tilma have said camp rocked. One of my coolest moments was before we even got to camp. I had decided to attempt to learn every kids name on my bus before we arrived at camp. For every other camper I just said “Hi” and introduced myself. Expect for one. Something told me to stop and have a conversation. I now recognize that something as the Holy spirit. So I talked with her. Within a minute she had revealed that A.she did not want to be here. B. she did not believe in God. C. God had let her down many times. One example she cited was that God let her grandfather die. I quickly saw this as an opportunity to reference my past that God has given me. I told her about Graeme and told her how much God loves each and everyone of us and how God will turn the bad to good. I could tell the story of my friend dying when I was her age impacted her. I told her she would have fun at camp and let her go back to reading.

Worshiping was one of the highlights of my week. I lost my voice and sometimes what came out did not sound very good. But as Dave said its not about the outside but the inside. Inside I felt very connected and love praising my Heavenly Father. One moment I remember was during the song Friend of God all the people around me and myself were so into the song and just yelling and worshiping. The Spirit was overflowing. The band did a great job of connecting the students in the worship and at every chance they had, they deflected the glory from themselves and on to God. I helped with some of the program so I saw the building go from no one to 150 God loving middle schoolers. What a cool sight!

At the end of the week I heard that the girl I talked to on the bus decided to accept Christ into her life for the first time. Although I did not pray it with her or was with her for the moment. Just knowing I had an impact was an amazing experience. Yet another example of how God has used Graeme’s passing for good.

I’ll write more about my guys in the future. For now just enjoy this picture. It in itself says it all.
