I am currently reading through the book of Mark and keep seeing examples of when people did not believe in Jesus. In Mark 5 Jesus is traveling to the house of a girl who is very sick, on his way there she dies. He keeps traveling towards the girls house despite many saying he was foolish.
35While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher any more?”36Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”37He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38When they came to the home of the synagogue ruler, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” ). 42Immediately the girl stood up and walked around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished.
I really like how Jesus says don’t be afraid just believe. I want to not be afraid of anything and just trust, I think I’m getting closer to that each day. I know i trust Gods plan for me more then I did a year ago but it is a never ending strugle.
How often do I not believe Jesus can help my current situation. I know I do it way to often. What stuns me is even in a time where Jesus was on earth people we’re still doubting him. How much harder is it for us today to trust that He really can do ANYTHING even bring a girl back from the dead. Society mocked Jesus then and mocks him even more today, yet we must believe and stand up for that belief. And even Jesus after healing many otheres faced disbelief “why bother the teacher” people assumed certainly this was even beyond his power. I love how Jesus truly teaches with both his actions and words.
Trying to never underestimate my Jesus,
Paul
