I have believed this for a long time. Sorry Matt. I do think the WiFi will be a great feature and many geeks will love it. The problem is that many geeks will love it. Unless Microsoft manages to make it easy enough to use that everyone can do it, the Zune will not catch on. Based on what Steve Jobs and others have said. It does not sound like it will be.  I know people who cannot even handle iTunes and I would argue that that iTunes is some of the easiest software out there to use.

Currently Apple has a large amount of momentum behind it. When was the last time you saw Microsoft get their product launched during an Opera show and with the support of Bono. Brilliant. Get the average housewife to buy a red iPod to help out AIDS victims and now she’s an Apple fan for life.

Macs are making a SURGE on college campuses. I have seen this down here in Eugene, at UofO. Roughly guessing I would say about half of the computers I have seen are Macs. Not scientific numbers but when you see computers out during classes there are actually more Macs. So either people enjoy showing off their Macs more or there simply are more of them around.

People will not switch because of a few features. People have spent money on their iTunes library. They know how to use their iPod. And they like it. Just because they can beam a song that their friend can hear 3 times will not be enough to make them switch.

I am very disappointed that the Zune will not fully utilize its WiFi. Such as being able to remotely buy songs. Hear a song from a friend. LOVE it. Then buy it. Also no wireless sync while at home. Lame.

Sorry Zune try again next time.
