Easy Solar Power

This device by Sanyo uses solar energy to charge standard AA batteries. I found the review on Gizmodo. This could come in handy during a camping trip or while spending a day at the beach. Or use it at home as a way to save electricity at home. The coolest part of this device is that you can also charge a cell-phone or an iPod with the device.

Hopefully this is a step to make solar power available to the average consumer. While this device uses solar energy to charge and comes with an optional heater I think cooling would be even cooler. While a truly solar powered car is likely many years away having air conditioning powered by the sun while your car is parked in a hot lot could come in very handy. This summer we had record energy demand on hot days if we could use the same energy that heats the house to cool the house we could save a lot of money and help the environment.

Would you use solar energy if it was cheaper and easier to obtain?

Hoping for cheap accessible solar energy,
-Paul
