Back it up!

April 28th, 2007 · 1 Comment

So I have been thinking about backing up all my important files for sometime now. And I finally got around to it. I have a hosting account over at dreamhost.com it grows by a gig a week. And I have some crazy amount of space like 250 GB’s available to me now. So I backed up all my photos and documents. I used this handy little tutorial. Granted this backup tutorial only works on macs, I am confident there is a similar windows tool out there! The cool part about it is you just tell it the path name and it takes care of the rest. I had done a crude backup last week by just using ftp. But this is way cooler as the second time you run it it simply compares the files and only updates what it needs too. Best part, if you already have a dreamhost account or something with ssh access it is free.

I have not finished part two yet. The automating part. But I feel better knowing that all my photos are safe if my hardrive were to crash or some other tech nightmare.

Do you backup your stuff? I always say its a great idea but am lame at following through!

Later,
Paul

Yes, I’m a total freak about backing things up. I’ve lot an entire computer’s worth of info before, long ago, and I’ll never let that happen again.

I usually back up to a local machine though, like a server in my garage. True, most people don’t have servers at home, but if you do…backup!

Nice banner of a dog. Yours or stock photo?
