Makes Me Glad I Live in America

If you read this New York Times article it chronicles how hundreds have died in Panama from cough medicine. No, they did not abuse it or take too much. They were poisoned. Not by a vicious killer but by greed. The poison that killed them came from China. After a maze of trading the poison was able to make it into their cough medicine without being tested. Basically the supplier switched the more expensive pure medical grade ingredient with a cheaper deadly impure industrial grade product. Go read the article. Click here.

I am so glad that the United States has the FDA after reading this article. And while our court system can sometimes be flawed, if anything like this ever happened all parties would be sued into the ground. Unlike in China where some of these factories are still running.

Later,

Paul

Tainted food makes it into the US, too: ny times story.

I’m no expert, but prevention of stories like these in a globalized food industry will require that regulations be placed with inspections at the source, just as we do domestically.
